Des Arbres sits on the edge of the village of Nueil les Aubiers in the Deux Sevres region of South West France. With an average of 2000 hours of sunshine per year, Deux Sevres is the second sunniest region of France.

Until recently Deux Sevres was fairly undiscovered by the Brits. Now it is becoming one of the 'go to' places in France. This is because of it's fantastic climate and the sheer number of activities the area has to offer. The largest & most popular theme park in France is Puy-de-Fou which is 22 miles away. Futuroscope is 90 minutes by car. Golfers have a large choice of courses, anglers a massive choice of waters, both river and still. Deux Sevres also offers horse riding, walking, cycling, bird-watching and more, the potential is unlimited. The beautiful coast of Western France is a mere 90 minutes as is La Rochelle, a popular destination for holiday makers.

Three airports. Nantes, Poitiers and La Rochelle are all within 90 minutes drive. All are served by low cost airlines with regular flights to most areas of the UK. The French motorway network is accessible within a 20 minute drive. Paris is 200 miles by car.

The port of St Malo is less than 3 hours by car and has daily Brittany Ferries crossings to Portsmouth. Calais is only 380 miles by road, 90% of the route is on the excellent French Autoroute system. There are several other ferry ports within easy driving distance.

The village of Les Aubiers is a 3 minute walk from the house. The village has a large supermarket, banks, hairdressers, bakers, garages, 3 bars and other businesses all within walking distance or a 5 minute drive. There is also a doctor, dentist and a pharmacy in the village. There is a pharmacy assistant who speaks English. There is a primary school less than a 5 minute walk from the house. In Argenton Les Vallees, a 10 minute drive, there is an English speaking doctor.

10 miles away is Bressuire which is a medium sized town and has a hypermarket and several supermarkets. There are many shops, bars, cafes and restaurants ranging from the inexpensive to the not so cheap. There are scondary schools and 2 colleges in Bressuire. There is an excellent hospital. Bressuire is famous for the biennial Highland Games and also has highly rated tennis facilities.

Bressuire has a railway station which links to the French TGV system. You can be in Paris in approximately 3 hours on the TGV.

Cholet, a very large town, is 15 miles away and has all the facilities you would expect in any large town including hypermarkets, superb fresh produce shops, hospitals, main car dealers and so on. There are many restaurants including a great Chinese which does Karaoke at the weekend.

There is a large English ex-pat community in the area, many of the ex-pats offer their services as registered tradesmen. Trades covered include decorating, carpentry, building, plumbing, electrical work and gardening.
